Finally, I got caught by *the* bug

... the "Supernatural" bug... *sighs And to think I finally learned my lesson and would *not* start with another addiction...
Right now I'm about halfway through the first season, and while I wasn't quite taken in by the pilot - and still am not totally into the whole "supernatural" hunting business that sounds a bit too much like X-Files, Buffy etc. -, I simply love the little glimpses into the relationship between the two brothers. Usually, I don't watch fantasy shows, since ghosts, demons, spirits etc. aren't really my cup of tea at all, so it's the characters that have to sort of pull me into such a show. And like X-Files with Mulder and Scully, it's Dean and Sam that interest me. They appear quite different - but that's just the outward front they both keep up, on the inside they conceal a pain and guilt that's quite similar. I'm not sure so far which of them appeals more to me, though. Is it Sam, whose precognitive dreams told him of his girlfriend's death before it happened, who never wanted to follow in his father's footsteps, who thinks himself misunderstood and never appreciated by his father? Or is it Dean, who has vivid and haunting memories of their mother's death, who resigned himself to the family business, who covers his sensitive soul under a layer of macho bravado?
I'm sure there's much yet to find out about the deaths of their mother and Sam's girlfriend respectively. Where's their father? What's Sam's role in everything that happened? And Dean... did he ever think about settling down like Sam tried to? What exactly drives him to pursue the "hunting" business? Not to forget the more practical questions... how the hell do they afford their travels? I mean, hunting and killing demons is not a job that gets well paid after all.
Well, I'd better get back to watching before any withdrawal symptoms start manifesting themselves...
