Given that this will be my final entry before I go on holiday and it is 1 day before the release of Deathly Hallows, I do have to discuss all the rumours, but even more so the reactions by JKR and the media. I'll also mention my expectations... of course, under the following cut. Be warned, I'll mention some of the spoilers which make their way around the net nowadays!!!

SPOILER ALERT!!!

But before I go into that, I'd like to list my expectations for book 7.

* Snape - has to be a good guy, will possibly die in order to save Harry

* Draco - can he be saved?

* Lupin/Pettigrew - I'd be seriously disappointed if Lupin died, especially if Pettigrew were the one Marauder left alive.

* deaths: one of the Weasleys (either the twins or Molly because Charlie isn't important enough, Percy has to redeem himself, and every other member of the family has already been targeted by Voldemort/his minions), Hagrid (wouldn't mind that), Lupin (would mind that very much, see above), Harry (actually, I'd like to see him killed because I don't quite see how he can survive), Voldemort of course.

* horcrux: IMO Harry is a horcrux. There are hints to that in CoS ("Voldemort put something of himself in you" Dumbledore), and it also would fulfill the pattern in Voldemort's actions. He expected to rid himself of his main adversary the night he went to the Potters - and isn't his potentially most important killing worth the creation of the final horcrux? When the curse failed, his soul was already split and went into Harry instead of whatever object Voldemort had planned.

Quite honestly, when I first heard the title of the new book I immediately thought of Halloween. It's always been an important date within the series - and wouldn't it make sense to end the whole thing on Halloween? Actually, I went a step further, especially since JKR always mentioned that she wouldn't write any more Potter books - what about if something happened at the final duel between Harry and Voldemort that unwrapped sort of the timeline. Voldemort (and perhaps even Harry) dies - and the next chapter restarts the whole story at Halloween 1981, only that now Voldemort is killed or never attacks or whatever (would it be so unimaginable that in order to become immortal he learned how to play with time itself?). That way, JKR could have written the epilogue before she ever wrote the real final battle because it never would have influenced what happened in the epilogue. Would such an ending be cheating? IMO not, because Harry actually has to go through everything in order to give himself a chance at a normal childhood - if he doesn't defeat Voldemort in the future of timeline A, timeline B sort of would never exist. I'm not sure if I make any sense here (except in my own head *g*), but to be honest, I would have liked such an ending.

Well, and that brings me back to the spoilers in the internet.

Again, SPOILER ALERT!!!

SPOILER ALERT!!!

SPOILER ALERT!!!

SPOILER ALERT!!! PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

SPOILER ALERT!!! LAST WARNING!!!

When I first saw the reports about the photographed book, I thought that this must be the real thing. Even reviews didn't contradict what's been said there. And JKR's own statement on her homepage doesn't contradict it. I guess there can't be any plausible denials if there's nothing to deny, after all. So let's assume, it's legit. On the other hand, what I heard of the content is so filled with fandom-cliches that I begin to doubt. I mean, come on, Snape was in love with Lily??? Isn't that where all the Severitus-fanfics come in? I don't say that it couldn't be real, but it certainly isn't very original a reason for Snape to defect to Dumbledore.

And even if Harry reconciles with Snape - he actually calls his second child Albus Severus??? I believe that Snape is a true hero of this war, even without any spoilers, but naming your own child after someone you hated for years... it's a bit farfetched IMO.

I don't know much about the alledged content, save for who dies - and quite frankly, apart from Snape, I don't see any other *major* character dying. Granted, Lupin is close to Harry (though definitely not as close as I would have liked), Fred is a fun character, Alastor is one of the main players of the order - but I would count none of them among the main characters. So, none of the deaths really hit me hard (save Lupin's) and IMO don't quite warrant an announcement of the "2 characters will die" proportions. Well, this is war, war means sacrifice and death - and I guess we should count ourselves lucky that it just hit those supporting characters.

Again, maybe this all was a hoax, created for upping the tension and anticipation of book 7. If it is the real book 7, however, then Scholastic and the relevant book stores certainly have much to answer for. I mean, security measures that worked for books 5 and 6 are miraculously broken just days prior to the release? Wouldn't and shouldn't they have been even more strict with book 7?

Well, I guess, we'll get our answer to that question tomorrow (or whenever I'll be able to obtain my copy in Ireland). I sure as hell am looking forward to reading "Deathly Hallows". I just hope it lives up to all the expectation surrounding it - and that it lives up to being the ending this series deserves! Happy reading!
