[Review] Criminal Minds - 5.13 Risky Business
On to the next episode, this one focusing on JJ...
Honestly, JJ's one character I can't relate to as much as I can to the male leads. To me she's the pretty face but not much more. The only thing I really appreciate about her is her relationship with Hotch which always came across as very genuine and truely affectionate. That's actually one of the saving points of this episode, her trying to tell Hotch that losing someone gets easier with time. I really liked this ending.
Otherwise, I'm not so sure about this episode. JJ's losing her sister after a suicide... well... I'm not sure, but I'd really like at least one character to have a close to normal childhood. So I could have done without that "revelation", especially since we won't hear anything about it ever again, I guess.
The case itself... Munchhausen per proxy... orchestrating mass suicides via a game... well, quite intriguing and Garcia once again managed to shine in a role other than her usual as analyst. Perhaps that episode would have been better if it had focused more on Garcia than on JJ, after all. I definitely empathized with the unsub's son. Ritually abused but denying it, talk about childhood trauma.
Final rating: 6.5/10 - after the upheaval of the most recent episodes this one was unfortunately one of the weakest this season.
